June 27, 2001 With only a few days left to vote for baseball's All-Star Team, Major League Baseball and iConverse have turned to a new-era polling booth to keep the momentum rolling: ballots accessible over wireless devices.
Launched yesterday, the voting site http://mobile.mlb.com is accessible from all devices, including the Web. It uses a simple-to-navigate balloting interface that allows fans to choose and submit their picks.
All-Star voting the "old-fashioned" way via paper ballots handed out at stadiums and retail outlets ended Sunday. Taking over while the paper ballots are counted: Web site balloting, which is breaking records of its own.
According to Major League Baseball, 123,000 votes were cast online Tuesday, "the highest (vote) total in history for a single day."
Now at bat: the wireless version.
Although the voting ends July 1, Major League Baseball is keeping the wireless site alive throughout the season. It currently offers, besides the balloting feature, daily American League and National League scores and schedules. Upcoming: player stats and wireless auctions.
