Apple Leverages Broadcom's 'Bluetonium'

Apple has selected Broadcom's Blutonium BCM2040 single-chip solution for its new wireless keyboard and mouse.

According to Broadcom, Blutonium is the first Bluetooth solution to ship with "adaptive frequency hopping" and other upcoming Bluetooth 1.2 features.

"Adaptive frequency hopping" allows intelligent Bluetooth devices to monitor the frequency band, identifying channels with the least interference and hopping within those channels to ensure quality communications and to minimize Bluetooth interference with Wi-Fi devices.

"Standards are key ingredients for innovation and Apple continues to lead the industry in supporting and integrating standards and advanced technologies at every level," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "Broadcom's ability to deliver advanced, standards based technology made the Blutonium solution the obvious choice for our new wireless keyboard and mouse."
