BlueFactory Finds What Many Are Seeking: Funding

10Meters News Service

August 22, 2001 – The sky may be falling on a chunk of the technology landscape, but some companies are gaining ground. Like BlueFactory, a Swedish mobile entertainment company, which this week garnered US $7 million in funding to push its wireless games further into the mainstream.

Investing in the BlueFactory future: T-Mobile Venture, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom; Singapore-based Infocomm Investments Pte Ltd, a government subsidiary, and company's existing Scandinavian investor, IT Provider. Hawkpoint Partners advised on the transaction.

CEO Soki Choi

"This is of particular significance given the challenging current economic climate and is testament to our success and robust pipeline of new business," noted BlueFactory's CEO, Soki Choi.

"We believe that the wireless entertainment market has reached a watershed and that BlueFactory is well positioned to assume a dominant role," added Simon Lindfors of IT Provider.

Founded in 2000, BlueFactory develops wireless plug-and-play products that utilize current and next-generation platforms and technologies, including SMS, WAP, GPRS, positioning services and Bluetooth.

Its list of games includes Hunters & Collectors, a multiplayer duel that uses SMS and positioning technology; Flirtylizer, an SMS and positioning-based dating service that allows "anonymous flirting"; SMS and WAP-based FootballQuiz, for soccer fans, and WAP/GPRS-based TamaGordon, a cartoon companion based on the famous Japanese Tamagotchi virtual reality creatures.

BlueFactory has offices in Stockholm and Hong Kong. Founders include Choi, Per Holmkvist, Linda Samlin and John Wennerström, who say their products are targeted at "young-minded people of both sexes."
