10Meters News Report
March 27, 2001 Travelers who worry about the fate of their luggage are getting a boost from Bluetooth.
Sabre Holdings, the heavy-weight travel industry services company, and Danish Bluetooth developer, BlueTags, have teamed up on eBaggage Tracking, a product that will keep tabs on baggage from start to finish.
Using Bluetooth and radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies from BlueTags and based on electronic "tags" that the Danish company has patented, the service will give both travelers and airlines the ability to keep track of where bags have been, where they are going and most importantly where they are.
Travelers will be able to electronically check their bags with the airline by using a special scanner, and, upon arrival, will receive messages about the whereabouts of those bags over their wireless handhelds
eBaggage Tracking will be available during the fourth quarter of 2001 just in time for the busy holiday travel season.
BlueTags, based in Aalborg, Denmark, is a leading Bluetooth development company with clients including Ericsson, Nokia, Siemens and Cambridge Silicon Radio. Visit BlueTags at www.bluetags.com.
