November 2, 2001 Communication Intelligence Corporation (CIC) announced this week that its Sign-On biometric signature technology will supports the new Microsoft Windows-Powered Pocket PC 2002 software platform.
The Redwood Shores, Calif., company also announced that Symbol
Technologies, a mobile data-transaction system provider, will provide its e-signature and authentication solutions to its mobile computing customers. The products will be available for online purchase.
"Based on the increasing demand for security, our combined offerings will provide our customers with the hardware and software options they require," Elaine Henderson, director, Software Marketing for Symbol, said of the CIC deal.
Sign-On is the first security utility for Palm connected organizers and Pocket PC devices to use biometric signature verification. Other CIC products for the handheld market include Jot, a handwriting recognition system; WordComplete, a text entry utility; QuickNotes, an electronic note-taking solution; InkSnap, a
dynamic ink scaling for small form factor devices, and Inktools, a software development toolkit enabling real-time electronic signature capture, biometric signature verification, ink compression and encryption.
Symbol Technologies, Inc., a winner of the National Medal of Technology, provides transaction solutions based on wireless local area networking for data
and voice, application-specific mobile computing and bar code data capture. Markets offering Symbol bar code scanners, mobile computers and wireless LANs include retailing, transportation, distribution
