Dell, etrieve Court SMBs with Email Solution

10Meters News Report

March 9, 2001 – Dell and etrieve are aiming a new email product at American small businesses.

The solution, Dell Mobile Office Server with factory-installed etrieve Microsoft Exchange Server Edition software, will allow Dell customers to hear or read email, calendar and contacts remotely from cell phones and respond with voice or text messages.

Dell and etrieve will bundle the server and software with a service contract, said Frank Muehleman, senior vice president of Dell's small and medium business group. The goal: help IT managers deploy a server-based mobile email network that can be administered from a secure and central location.

"With the increase in wireless products, it's become easier than ever to stay productive on the road," Muehleman. "But with all those gadgets, we're running out of real estate on our belts. With etrieve and the Dell Mobile Office server, you can stay connected to the office without adding another device to carry."

Customers will be able to receive email notices via a ping on their cell phone, he added. Users then call into the etrieve service to listen to computerized voice messages. Responses are made by voice and appear as an audio file on the recipient's email. etrieve also supports text access to data via Web-enabled mobile phones and a secure Web site.
