Hewlett-Packard and PricewaterhouseCoopers have their eyes on the skies and a wide wireless horizon.
In a link up announced yesterday, HP and PwC are targeting the $15 billion aviation industry with a new joint venture called the Aviation Solution Center.
The combo will combine people, products and services from PwC's aviation consulting arm and HP's computing and consulting teams. The goal: create products and services that will use Internet and wireless technologies to streamline day-to-day operations for airlines and airports.
Taking the reins, longtime HP executive Ann Livermore, currently head of HP Services.
Among the plans, said Livermore, is creating a "wireless ramp," or network of devices, that would help coordinate and speed the process of getting planes ready for passengers including baggage handling, fueling and cleaning the aircraft.
"From HP's perspective, this is an ideal marketplace to deploy our innovative mobility and services delivery capabilities," said Livermore.
