InfoWave, Novatel Target the Enterprise

10Meters News Report

March 6, 2001 – InfoWave and Novatel Wireless are teaming up to make it easier for the enterprise to go wireless.

The two companies Monday said they would jointly market and sell wireless "behind the firewall" solutions. The idea: to provide their wireless know-how to companies struggling to connect mobile workers with internal data.

Novatel builds wireless data modems for laptops and handheld computers, including the Compaq iPAQ, Pocket PC, Palm devices, the Handspring Visor, IBM WorkPad and the HP Jornada 540 series Pocket PC.

Infowave's participation includes its Wireless Business Engine, which allows wireless access to Web-based applications, the Internet, corporate intranets, Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino. InfoWave Business Engine clients include Compaq, Intel, Nokia and AT&T Wireless.

The cooperative solution, say the two, will allow customers to focus on what needs to be communicated, rather than having to spend time "figuring out which components of hardware and software are compatible."

"Novatel Wireless' modems combined with Infowave's Wireless Business Engine gives a corporation everything it needs in terms of security, scalability and connectivity... Infowave has been a real catalyst in making the wireless enterprise a reality and together, we are developing a strategy to target 1,000 corporate customers this year," said John Major, CEO of Novatel Wireless.
