April 18, 2001 – Microsoft is offering developers a tool to make it easier for them to build mobile applications using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Windows CE.

The tool, called Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Windows CE 1.1 Evaluation Edition, provides a database platform for the development of applications that extend enterprise data management to mobile and embedded devices. Available in eight languages, Evaluation Edition supports reliable data synchronization based on Internet standards and optimized for mobile and wireless scenarios.

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition, part of the company's SQL Server 2000 data management and analysis solutions, extends database management capabilities to devices such as the Pocket PC, handheld computers, and other mobile devices running the Windows CE operating system.

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Windows CE 1.1 Evaluation Edition, along with all the other software necessary to fully evaluate the product such as eMbedded Visual Tools and ActiveSync technology 3.1, can be downloaded from the Microsoft SQL Server Web site.
