Michael Jordan Joins the Palm Team

June 20, 2001 – Basketball great Michael Jordan is joining the celebrity Palm team.

The retired NBA star is launching his own signature editions of the Palm m100 and m500. Ranging from $159 to $425 in price, the Michael Jordan handhelds will include his signature in silver on the front and several basketball-oriented games and programs. Jordan will get 12 percent of the sales, the companies said.

Jordan signed a three-year deal with PTN Media, which plans to sell them online, in stores and Jordan's restaurants. Palm will manufacture the devices. PTN also helped launch the Claudia Schiffer-branded Palm, which are no longer available.

"Between running the Washington Wizards, several business partnerships and being constantly on the go, I like the kind of help, information, versatility and the games that Palm handhelds deliver," Jordan said.

The Michael Jordan editions will feature special programs, including:

  • Quotes from Jordan that inspire users "whether it is before a big meeting or before the big game."

  • Trivia game that focuses on Jordan's career

  • Training tips from Jordan's personal trainer.

  • Pinball game customized with a basketball theme

  • Shotchart, a basketball scoring application that allows users to keep track of favorite players or an entire team.

  • MJ's Restaurants, information on all of Jordan's restaurants

  • TotalCarMJ, a "car records" management and tracking solution.
