October 29, 2001 Qualcomm has added a Web interface to its fleet management communications systems, OmniTRACS and OmniExpress.
The update, called QTRACS/Web, provides two-way communications maintained in-house or hosted by Qualcomm via the Internet. Both solutions track current and historical vehicle locations and display them on a scalable, street-level map.
"QTRACS/Web provides trucking companies with flexibility, as it lets
dispatchers and managers access fleet information from outside the office, such as from home,'' said Chris Wolfe, president of Qualcomm Wireless Business
Solutions.
"Qualcomm's Web-based service also helps trucking companies
with multiple facilities to streamline their operations and improve their
productivity, since all terminals, regardless of their location, have access to the
same information," Wolfe said.
QTRACS/Web can be used by customers over their existing in-house networks and provides advanced functions, including security, maintenance and integration at the central office, and user functions, such as access to key operational data from remote offices.
Qualcomm will also host the tracking for clients preferring to access the information on the Internet. The service includes server, software and customer data maintenance.
Qualcomm introduced the OmniTRACS mobile communications system for the transportation industry in 1988, followed by the release of OmniExpress, a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)-based digital wireless communications and tracking system.
