December 14, 2001 In a deal announced Thursday, Saab Automotive commissioned AU-System of Gothenburg, Sweden, to turn its telematic road map into real-life services and applications for upcoming models.
The move is basically a show of continued support for AU-System, which helped develop Saab's overall telematics strategy.
"AU-System will now contribute to the speedy realization and delivery of telematics services that will further strengthen the Saab brand," said Jan Unander, business strategist with AU-System's Gothenburg telematics team.
In the collaboration, AU-System will provide technical and operational support as well as advice on the development of mobile services.
AU-System this summer was tapped by Volvo to deliver WAP browser software in a test-run to see if the wireless protocol can be utilized outside the mobile telephony realm.
The WAP tests in Volvo vehicles is part of the EU collaboration, Intelligent Transport Systems over Wireless Application Protocol (ITS WAP), of which Telia and Ericsson also participate.
The WAP test is scheduled to run through 2001.
