March 14, 2001 Capitalizing on the projected growth of wireless in the enterprise and its own expertise in the field Sprint today announced a new services and consulting division that it says will get companies up and running in time for the m-commerce bonanza.
Called Sprint E|Solutions' Enterprise Mobile Practice, the new group will provide customers with device-based m-commerce transaction and e-business application solutions.
"The opportunity for m-commerce is staggering," said the new group's president, Keith Paglusch. "By taking advantage of it now, our customers may realize an increase in sales, and an ease of use, by working with Sprint."
Paglusch's optimism is based on IDC projections that m-commerce will "dramatically" jump from $29 million in 2000 to $20.8 billion in 2004.
The Sprint move is aimed at creating an all-in-one mobile enterprise solution that includes a suite of personalized network services, such as helping clients link up to mobile devices and providing customized wireless applications.
"Sprint's national team of specialized m-commerce consultants will work with the customer to help define their needs and then design and implement the best solution to meet their goals for growth. Sprint then creates a customized solution to extend the customers' Internet investment into the mobile arena quickly and easily," said Paglusch.
The service will help lower the costs of migrating to wireless technologies, according to Spring, since it will operate and manage the complete IT environment. Sprint will host client's applications at Sprint E|Solutions Internet Centers.
