Volkswagen Gears Up With Psion Teklogix Solutions

10Meters News Report

March 13, 2001 – Volkswagen is extending its SAP logistics system via wireless Psion Teklogix solutions.

Volkwagen's new wireless supply chain solution, featuring Psion Teklogix radio frequency (RF) data terminals and TekRF interface software, allows real-time communications across the company's warehouses in Germany, the two companies announced yesterday.

The system architecture, comprising more than 750 Psion Teklogix vehicle and handheld terminals and TekRF software, is the largest RF implementation for Psion Teklogix in Europe.

The new system enables VW to manage and track deliveries in real time at every point, from the time they arrive at the warehouse until the point of shipping. The result: accurate tracking, allowing urgent deliveries to be given priority.

Psion said the majority of the Teklogix 7,030 terminals will be based in Volkswagen's main dispatch center in Kassel, where they will be used to scan and track the 150,000 daily transactions covering 900 tons of individual parts from Volkswagen's more than 240,000 different product lines.

Volkswagen's Psion Teklogix system underscores the value of wireless supply-chain management solutions, said Wolfgang Schroder, managing director of Psion Teklogix in Germany.

"Our TekRF solution, combined with the Teklogix 7030 terminals, offers enterprises a simple and efficient means for real-time data communications between a centralized IT system and mobile users at any number of remote sites," said Schroder. "This means that core business data can be updated online in a matter of seconds."
